How To Make A Wooden Confetti Bead Garland

You Will Need…

  • a wood bead garland* (you can buy one premade like any of these*, or make your own!)
  • #theconfettibar confetti (the best kind 😉 )
  • acrylic paint (+ paintbrush, palette, etc.)
  • hot glue gun
  • OPTIONAL: glitter, gold leaf, yarn/ribbon, & other assorted embellishments

To start you’ll want to pick some acrylic paint colors that coordinate with your confetti.

Pro Tip: In addition to some matching colors, I also sometimes like to choose an accent color to paint that isn’t already in the confetti mix – it helps make it pop a bit more, like the mint green in the photo above.

When painting, simply add little splotches of color all around the garland, making sure each bead is colorful, but it doesn’t need to be completely covered. You can also choose to add fun accents/textures like glitter, gold leaf, and/or dimensional paint.

Pro Tip: Don’t overthink this part – simply have fun adding dabs of color all over the garland, but no need to be too precious about it. The messier, the better, in my opinion. 😉

Once you’ve let your paint completely dry, use your hot glue gun to start adhering confetti. Work in small sections, adding more confetti than you actually need on top of the glue, gently pressing down. (CAUTION: Be careful not to burn yourself!) You can also sort of roll the garland into a small pile of confetti to get it to stick.

Work in small sections, gently twisting the beads around every few inches so it covers all around the garland.

Once you’ve covered the entire garland, let the glue cool completely. Then sort of gently “pick at” or brush the confetti with your fingers to remove any excess that isn’t actually adhered with the glue. In the end it should look fully confetti-fied, but you still want to see the painted beads coming through.

I warn you these are slightly addicting to make, so you’ll want to be prepared to experiment with different color mixes and additional textures!

You can also optionally choose to add yarn/ribbon to the existing tassels of your garland to jazz it up even more. Have fun trying new things like tying bows, wrapping (& gluing) yarn, and/or adding some coordinating paint splatters. The possibilities are endless, but you can match to any preferred colors and decor style.

How To Style A Bead Garland

Styling a bead garland is often more art than science, but here are some proven ways to make it look extra fab. You can consider styling your wood beads by:

  • draping them on a shelf or over a mantle
  • filling a pretty bowl on your coffee table
  • wrapping around the mouth of a vase
  • coiling on a stack of books
  • hanging on a doorknob
  • wrap around the handle of a purse/tote bag

You can coordinate confetti + paint colors for different holidays and events, too!

Imagine these garlands elegantly draped around your Christmas tree…or hanging from your Valentine’s Day book shelf… maybe even as a photo backdrop for a very special party!

Can you imagine making a beaded curtain of these? MAGIC! Or even tying around a special gift as both a piece of wrapping and a gift itself. Brilliant.

Have a brand or business? Maybe a particular event theme? Snag some made-for-you custom confetti to get juuuust the right mix.
