Exciting news, friends! Team Confetti welcomed our new little bundle of joy on 9/25/20. As such, we plan to take a short family leave to adjust to life with a new baby. While we will continue to ship orders as soon as possible, we want to make you aware that any orders placed for the duration of this message could potentially be delayed. We will do our best to keep everyone updated if there will be delays more than 4 weeks, but we thank you for your patience in advance! ♡ (If you have a time sensitive order that needs to be received before mid-November, please reach out first so we can see where we’re at.)

No Bake, Dairy Free, Gluten Free “Dunkaroos”

Healthy(ish) Dunkaroos Dip Recipe (No Bake, Dairy Free, Gluten Free)

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty much a sucker for most things I remember from when I was a kid, Dunkaroos being no exception. We all love this classic 90’s treat, right? Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a combo that tastes just like them!! (Except slightly “healthier” hah!) Since the real thing is hard to find (although apparently Dunkaroos are coming back), I wanted a taste of childhood that is just a tad bit cleaner — a lower sugar, dairy free, gluten free version, to be exact.

Now this combo is by no means completely sugar-free, but it definitely has less dairy, gluten, and chemicals than your traditional store-bought kind, so that’s a win in my book for an occasional taste of nostalgia.

Okay, calling this a “recipe” might be a bit of a stretch, as there isn’t any cooking/baking required. You just need a few store-bought items, and a little bit of assembly. But I promise, the end result is worth it!

Dunkaroo Dip Instructions

First you’re going to want to make your Rainbow Chip Sprinkles, which might seem like an unnecessary step, but definitely makes all the difference for the vanilla frosting. (I mean what’s Dunkaroo frosting without the rainbow chips…) See below for the how-to.

Then, once you have the rainbow chips ready, it’s truly just a matter of mixing them into the vanilla frosting, then dipping your Kinnikinnick grahams in either chocolate or vanilla. Fast. Easy. Delicious.

Homemade Rainbow Chip Sprinkles Ingredients

Homemade Rainbow Chip Sprinkles Instructions

  1. Combine tapioca pearls with colored liquid. (*The ratio I used is about 1/4 cup colored liquid to 6 TBSP tapioca pearls.)
  2. Let soak for at least 10-15 min, or until liquid has been completely absorbed by the pearls. (If need be, spread the soaked & colored tapioca onto a cookie sheet lined with paper towels to absorb any excess moisture.)
  3. Combine all the colors and use as a decoration or mix-in for this & other recipes. Store unused sprinkles in the refrigerator or freezer.

*For the batch of rainbow chips featured here I used Confection Crafts powdered food colors and mixed 1/2 tsp of powdered food coloring in with 1/4 cup of water. If using homemade natural food colors, since they are already liquid-y, I’d recommend using just 1/4 cup of the liquid color per 6 TBSP of tapioca pearls.

What other childhood treats do you wish you had a cleaner/healthier alternative to? It’s one of my (not so) secret hobbies to experiment with new twists on old faves (like these healthy movie snack alternatives)!
