Grain Free, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Egg Free, Vegan, Paleo Banana Bread
Hands down this is the best, cleanest banana bread recipe you’ll ever need in your life. It’s easy to make, and includes my secretest of secret ingredients βΒ Speculaas Spice*! So if you’re looking for an amazing banana bread that is grain free, gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegan, and paleo, then this is the recipe for you!
As with any banana bread, the riper the bananas, the sweeter and better it seems to turn out. I also like to add chocolate chunks and walnuts to mine, but you can feel free to sub or omit.
While it’s delicious enough on its own, for a little bit of extra flavor flair you can top with either vegan butter or cream cheese. I prefer Earth Balance Soy Free Buttery Spread and Kite Hill Plant-based Cream Cheese.
I recommend making this bread a day or so in advance, as you need it to be completely cool and firm before slicing β it’s a necessary step! It tests your patience, sure, but I promise it’s worth it.

So if you’re looking for an amazing banana bread that is grain free, gluten free, dairy free, egg free, vegan, and paleo, then this is the recipe for you!
Ingredients
- Dry Ingredients
2 cups almond flour
1 TBSP coconut flour
1 TBSP speculaas spice (Can sub cinnamon in a pinch, but won’t be as delicious! See notes for how to make your own speculaas spice if you can’t find pre-mixed.)
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup dairy free chocolate chips (optional)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- Wet Ingredients
1/3 cup non-dairy milk of choice
3 TBSP coconut oil, melted
3-6 TBSP maple syrup
2 flax eggs (2 TBSP ground flax mixed with 5 TBSP water; let sit for 5-10 minutes until thick)
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2-3 ripe bananas, mashed
- Crumb Topping (Optional)
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
2 tsp cinnamon (or speculaas spice)
2 tsp coconut sugar
1 TBSP vegan butter, softened
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper.
- Combine all dry ingredients β except chocolate chips and nuts, if using β in a large bowl.
- Combine all wet ingredients β except bananas β in a separate bowl.
- Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients, mixing with a spatula.
- Fold in bananas, chocolate chips, and nuts.
- Add batter to parchment-lined loaf pan.
- Combine all ingredients for the crumb topping in a small bowl, then sprinkle on top of batter.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes.
- Let bread cool for at least 30 min – 1 hour in loaf pan, then lift parchment paper lining to remove entire loaf from pan. Let cool completely before trying to cut into slices. (I often let it sit, covered, in the fridge overnight before slicing.)
- Serve plain, or with your choice of vegan butter or cream cheese.
Notes
- *If you don’t have pre-mixed speculaas spice on hand, you can make your own! Simply combine 5 TBSP ground cinnamon, 1 tsp ground nutmeg, 1 tsp ground cloves, 1/2 tsp ground anise seed, 1/2 tsp white pepper, 1/2 tsp ground coriander, 1/2 tsp ground ginger, 1/2 tsp ground cardamom, and 1/2 tsp ground mace.
- Your banana bread is going to smell so good coming out of the oven it will be hard to resist cutting right into it…but I promise, letting it cool completely is an integral step! It allows the bread to “firm up,” otherwise you’ll wind up with an ooey gooey pile of mush instead of lovely bread slices. π
- You can also make these as muffins! Just instead of pouring the batter into a loaf pan, add to paper-lined muffin tin.
